Biohacking - Live a more Balanced, Thriving Life

BioHack Your Way to Feel Well

As biohacking has gained traction over the recent years, many are curious as to how this emerging field can help them optimise well-being and start living more balanced, thriving lives. At its core, biohacking encompasses all the activities that can help us take control of our biology; to improve energy, clarity, longevity and performance.

You see, I believe biohacking is needed now more than ever. We live in a society that has sadly normalised feeling sub-par and having a variety of symptoms like aches and pains, brain fog, headaches, fatigue, and insomnia, just to name a few.

Be Proactive and Take Control

While the conventional healthcare system has had a reactive approach to treating what’s wrong in the body, biohacking takes a proactive approach to adopt health-promoting behaviours. It assumes the premise that wellness is something that should be actively pursued and put effort into. When taking a disease-centred approach, the emphasis is put on deferring negative health effects and avoiding symptoms, whereas a wellness-centred approach emphasises growth and striving for optimal well-being.

Its Easy Peasy

Many fall under the false impression that biohacking is a costly hobby; comprising of fancy gadgets and expensive tools, and this couldn’t be further from the truth. In its essence, biohacking is simply integrating ancestral practices along with modern-day advances in the realm of health. If anything, it's returning back to the foundations of what makes us, us. What makes us thriving humans. And often, this doesn’t begin with the fancy gear—rather than paying attention to how we fuel ourselves, how frequently we move, how intentionally we breathe, how much exposure to nature and sunlight we get etc. You see, before getting into the fancy tools, tactics and strategies, we must ensure that we have the foundational pillars covered. It’s a practice that is accessible to all of us, as long as we choose to do so.

You are the Master of Your Own Well-being

The most important thing to remember is, YOU are the one in control. And you are the only one who truly knows your body. By becoming well informed and taking intentional action on improving your current health behaviours, you can start developing the momentum to improve conditions and improve your overall well being. The other thing is, not to worry about tackling everything at once: diet, exercise, sleep, gut health, hormones, toxins, brain health, just to name a few...when we feel overwhelmed, we end up paralysed, unable to move forward! It’s only natural. So, when you want to tackle any personal health issue or simply improve your well-being, it’s okay to think big-picture, but take things slowly, step-by-step, day-by-day. That way, you’re giving yourself the best chance of creating lasting success.

Optimal health has a cumulative effect—by eating better, moving your body, seeking out the type of healthcare practitioner(s) who resonate with your lifestyle and health goals, all working together to help your state of well-being. As you understand now, health and feeling well is the result of the sum total of your daily habits, and this reaches further than just the physical—everything from the foods you eat, the thoughts you think, what you choose to expose yourself to, the amount of rest and rejuvenation you choose to give to yourself—they all reflect the relationship you choose to have with yourself.

There may be some Bumps in Road

Next, it’s important to remember that health isn’t a destination, it’s a journey. It’s something that you have to persistently strive towards. No matter how hard you try, you may encounter a few roadblocks along the way. It’s important not to be deterred from continuing on a healthier path. The goal is not perfection, but progress. If you stray from your goal, forgive yourself and keep going. We can all be making some changes to lead healthier lives. Think of what your life could be like a year from now, or in five or 20 years, if you keep at it.

Lastly, science and research is constantly evolving. Think back to what your parents thought was healthy, and what we now know—everything is so very different today! So we encourage you to do your own research and come to your own conclusions on things, especially in relation to your health.
